The territory under the authority of a bailiff or bailie - a sovereign\'s official. Now largely historical, though the British ‘Crown dependencies’ of Jersey and Guernsey (the chief Channel Islands), which do not come under the authority of Britain\'s parliament, are still formally described as bailiwicks.
