That part of the territory of a sovereign state which is made available for use by the military forces of a foreign state, and is sufficiently extensive and distinguishable to be termed a base. The terms and conditions on which it may be so used will have been agreed by the host and the foreign state. It should be noted that Britain\'s two bases on the island of Cyprus are not part of the state of Cyprus, as the areas in question are under British sovereignty: hence the phrase, British Sovereign Base Areas. See also status of forces agreement. |
