consular section

That part of an embassy which executes consular functions. Alternatively, where a consular section is not formally designated, members of the embassy\'s diplomatic staff may be authorized to perform such functions. In either case, as the persons performing these functions are diplomatic agents, they enjoy diplomatic and not consular privileges and immunities. See also consul; consular post; consular rank.
