Goods considered by a belligerent (sense 1) to be of assistance to the enemy in the conduct of war. Under the laws of war such goods being carried to a belligerent from a neutral state or by its shipping may be seized and confiscated by an opposing belligerent. The matter is now chiefly of historical interest. See also blockade. |
