deputy high commissioner |

The title sometimes given to the number two in a high commission. In British high commissions, this title is used in even the smallest posts; but in the case of the high commissions of at least two other Common-wealth states – Canada and South Africa – it is used only where the diplomat concerned is relatively senior. It is possible, although unusual, for more than one member of the staff of a high commission to be given this title.
The head of the office of a deputy high commissioner. |
