A State Department title for senior Foreign Service Officers assigned for one or two years to colleges and universities within the United States. DIRs do some teaching but their main purpose is to encourage and facilitate the recruitment of outstanding candidates to the Foreign Service. In the academic year 2002-2003 there were 14 of them. |
