extradition

 
     
  The process whereby one state surrenders to another (on the latter\'s request) a person accused or convicted of a criminal offence against the law of the requesting state. Extradition usually takes place on the basis of a bilateral treaty but may also proceed under multilateral conventions relating to serious crime.
