Although it was not commonly so called at the time, the war between Iran and Iraq which lasted from 1980 until 1988 is now often referred to as the First Gulf War.
The Second Gulf War (or simply the Gulf War, as many still call it) was the 1991 expulsion of Iraq from Kuwait by a UN-authorized group, led by the United States. It was arguably a rare case of authentic collective security. |
