  A synonym for receiving state.


More appropriately, a state which has agreed to an international organization having offices on its territory, or to a peacekeeping body or an observer mission operating there, or to an ad hoc conference being held there. In the last event, it is customary for its foreign minister or principal delegate to be the president of the conference. With responsibilities which include the chairing of plenary sessions and perhaps the drafting of any final report, this gives the host state a position of some influence.
