  A term for heads of mission of the third diplomatic class agreed by the powers at the Congress of Aix-la-Chapelle in 1818. In direct line of descent from the resident, the minister resident was still noted in the early editions of Satow\'s Guide but had disappeared by the time of the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations (1961).
