A record of the proceedings of a meeting or conference, with any decisions highlighted; thus sometimes known as ‘conclusions’. In French the term is procès-verbal. Minutes usually provide a summary of the proceedings but occasionally these are recorded verbatim (word for word). It is customary for an official of the party acting as host formally to record the minutes and circulate a draft after the meeting for the approval of the other participants. Agreed minutes may constitute a treaty if this is the intention of the parties.
The plural of minute: ‘The minutes on the jacket containing the last despatch from Rome suggest a clear division of opinion within the Office!’ |
