  non liquet

The statement by an adjudicatory body that it is unable to decide a case because of the absence of relevant legal rules. It is thought to be a highly unlikely situation, as if the plaintiff\'s case is ill-founded, the court or tribunal would find in favour of the respondent. See also justiciable dispute; non-justiciable dispute.
