The governing body of NATO. Chaired by the NATO Secretary-General, it is composed of permanent representatives of ambassadorial rank of all alliance members and meets at least once a week. At least twice a year the Council also meets at foreign minister level, and it meets at the summit as well when the occasion demands it. Nevertheless the Council\'s decisions have the same authority at whatever level they are taken. These decisions are arrived at on the basis of ‘unanimity and common accord’. Many subsidiary bodies now exist to support the work of the Council. |
