Equipment held on standby for the emergency despatch of a diplomatic mission. Such a need might arise in respect of a state which has been subject to such internal tribulation that the sending state\'s previous embassy (sense 1) is either destroyed or without the means necessary for the staff to be self-sufficient; or in respect of a state in which the sending state has not hitherto had a resident mission but to which the despatch of such a mission is now deemed to be very urgent. Modelled on army mobile field headquarters, a rapid reaction embassy typically consists of large containers holding essential equipment (notably for satellite communications, encryption, computing, and power generation) and prefabricated accommodation if necessary. Also called a flat-pack embassy.
A colloquial way of referring to an embassy which has been so established. |
