resident mission

A diplomatic mission the head of which is resident in the receiving state. Generally, its other members will also be resident there, but occasionally some or even most of them will be resident at a mission in another state, or dispersed among several other missions. Sometimes (although it seems less common than it used to be) a resident mission will have a non-resident head, with the mission in the receiving state being headed by a chargé d\'affaires ad interim. See also multiple accreditation; non-resident mission; satellite office.
