  Information on ‘internal’ threats to a state or its government, which is sought abroad as well as at home.


The agencies involved in the collection of this kind of information. In Britain this is MI5 (or the ‘Security Service’), in the United States the ‘Intelligence Division’ of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), in France the Direction de la Surveillance du Territoire (DST), and in Germany the Bundesamt für Verfassungsschutz (BfV).
